The first Reitmans store opened in 1926, on St. Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Herman and Sarah Reitman and their children ran this landmark store, which was a traditional "general" store. It soon became clear, however, that it was the women’s ready-to-wear line that was incredibly popular. The second location soon opened, selling only women’s apparel, and the rest, as they say, is history.

ADDITION ELLE was acquired by Reitmans in June of 2002 and currently has 130 locations across Canada. It offers plus size women
